Most athletes this time of year in our area likely are to be found indoors. On the hardwood floors of the gym or on a wrestling mat but for some one hundred or so hard core football players, a football workout in February-outdoors became a reality. This past weekend UE Sports hosted the inaugural QFB Football Combine which was held at the Muckleshoot Tribal School. The weather contributed to a successful kick off where the venue was buzzing as well over 100 of the region’s talented young athletes lined up for what everyone, spectators included, look’s forward to during the off season–great competition and there was plenty of it.

I talked with many of these athletes and basically told them, “Don’t show up to train. Show up to compete.” Talent budding from end zone to end zone set the pace for an exciting event which managed to draw in the best of the locals including athletes from Utah, Oregon and Idaho. The caliber of talent impressed parents, visiting college coaches and a number of Athletic Directors from area school districts. These kids were fired up and shared one common goal “Get Reps-Get Better”. Simple. Their hard work during the off season not only strengthens and builds confidence but helps them hone the fundamental skills necessary to compete as well as becoming a positive contributor to their respective teams when the season rolls around.

We want to thank the Muckleshoot Tribal School for an amazing venue. We also want to thank all the volunteer coaches especially our guest coaches, Coach Laufasa, Coach Sikahema, Everett Thompson and Fono Vakalahi for their contribution. Our biggest thank you goes to the behind the scenes staff and to those who helped promote the event. THANK YOU! Last but not least, to all the athletes who participated thank you for coming out. These will be the cream of the crop from these areas. Aiga Foundation Network and Ultimate Edge Sports are working together on these particular events. PAC committee will be on hand to evaluate players to be selected to play in our first TANOA BOWL at the end of the year.

Army All-American, Deandre Coleman had much to celebrate today at Garfield High School. Coleman accepted this honorable selection amongst friends, teammates, coaches, faculty members and his biggest fans- his family. Audio interview.

Debra Coleman, Deandre’s mom, is continuing to be an inspirational role in all of her son’s achievements. During our interview, Deandre showed the humble young man that he truly is and expressed gratitude for receiving the opportunity to represent the Northwest Region.

Game Stats

At Auburn Memorial Stadium, safety Carlo Lavoie intercepted three passes and the fifth-ranked Trojans (5-0, 5-0) pounded out 359 rushing yards behind a dominating offensive line to beat the Chargers (2-3, 1-3) in the North. Sophomore Austen Embody carried 10 times for 116 yards, with a 40-yard scoring run, and 235-pound junior Chris Young had two TD runs and 98 yards on 15 carries for Auburn.
